junior apprentice

I watched it on catch-up tv tonight.  So what’s the verdict?  Do you guys think the right ‘man’ won?  I don’t think so.  The all-rounder won it but I’d have given the prize to the ideas man.  The poor kid came up with the concept single-handedly!  The professionals were so impressed… and yet he lost.  I think it was probably down to three things:

1)  The guy looked like a bunny rabbit

2) He used hair straighteners at every opportunity

3) No-one was sure about that facial hair

Still, I’d have given him the £25,000.  Poor sod! 😉

Anyway… Friday night!  Just a quick note to say I’ve been tinkering with Where we go next – refining it and distilling it to its essence.  It is now sounding pretty hot.  And to think it started from hitting some wine glasses with a spoon!  Well, the Beatles used to experiment at Abbey Road.  So, yeah… I’m comparing myself to the Beatles!!!  Ha ha!

hear all about it

Yay!!!  News day!

Okay.  I am officially unveiling the title of the CONFESSION OF THE WHOLE SCHOOL debut album.  It will be called “ALL MONSTERS AND DUST “.  There are many reasons for this name and I’m sure they will become apparent over the course of future posts.

I am also very pleased to announce that the “found sound” song that I have been working on since the Africa trip is finally finished.  If you remember, this was a song that was built upon a foundation of wine glasses, a tube of Pringles and a box of Crunchy Nut Cornflakes.  I have collaborated with renowned American musician Bill Ryan to really bring you something special!  The song is called “Where we go next ” and it really is a monster of a song.  It has fully lived up to and realised all expectations!  Enjoy!!!

come closer

A new song has been added to the “album in progress”.  It is called come closer.  Very much a happy song – acoustic and mellow.  Look out for the very spritely end section.  Hopefully this song is worth the carnage caused by the JD!!!

the demon that is JD

So, I got a lot done in the studio last night… I’m coming close to finishing a new song.  But then disaster!  I managed to pour a glass of Jack Daniels over some of the equipment.  Then, I felt like the best option to recover the situation would be to put the equipment in a sink full of water.  Let’s just say that it was NOT a good idea. 😦

My wallet’s feeling a little lighter.  The moral of the story?  DON’T DRINK AND RECORD!!!  It may have been the norm in the 60s but it certainly isn’t a good idea if you’re not already a millionaire!

vids

Just a quickie.

I’ve added another youtube video to the HISTORY section of this site. Again, not very good quality but please understand that these vids were filmed on crappy cameras. It also doesn’t help that the cameraman on each occasion chooses to stand right in front of the PA speakers. However, on the lastest addition the cameraman was my brother so I’ll let him off 😉

A couple of new songs are coming on strong. I shall add them to the “album in progress” as soon as I can. I can’t wait until I get to a time when I can start deciding on a final track listing!

I shall also unveil the album title soon!

Oh, and my girl, if you read this… I miss you xxx

I wanna be elected

Sitting here watching the election.  Looks like the Conservatives are going to get in.  Maybe a hung parliament.  We’ll find out in a few hours.  Everyone prepare to riot!

Hmmm.  I open the brand new issue of Computer Music and what do I see?  Page 64 tells me I could record the sound of a wine glass and use it as an instrument.  Oh, and I could shake a jar of rice and use that sound as a ‘shaker’.  This annoys me a little as my new song uses these themes.  At least this website has documented the creation of the new CONFESSION OF THE WHOLE SCHOOL song.  It proves it was well underway before publication of this magazine.  This band will not be accused of blindly following the advice of a magazine! 😉

(actually… for the record, I’d recommend Computer Music to anyone.  Great magazine.  It would certainly be an ambition to get a song onto the cover disc)
